I got wrangled into being in a band.

Stranger Than Kindness
I don't really follow Fever Ray but I was quite surprised and impressed when I came across this cover of Nick Cave's "Stranger Than Kindness" the other day.

Suede at The Brixton Academy
I don't even care that my face is crooked.
These past couple days have been the most amazing days of my life. Not only did I fulfill a 10 year dream by seeing Suede perform 3 nights in a row at The Brixton Academy but I met wonderful people in the process.
Seeing all the songs live has given me a newfound appreciation for the band and really changed the way I listen to them. You would think that growing up around rock bands and actors would desensitize me to getting all sappy about this (and for the most part it has) but Suede have just been such a big part of my life. That's all I can really say.
Thank you to everyone who made these days so special and fuck you to the guy who called me a fat American "who should lose weight so everyone could fit in the front row". He's lucky I didn't have my Bevel ring on because he'd be toast.

MEDIAFIRE
Because ObscureAlternatives has become somewhat of a music blog as well, every so often I will post a mix made by a designer that includes their all time favourite/inspirational songs. Katie Gallagher was kind enough to kick off this whole musical experiment with her gothed out song choices. Tell me what you think and tell me who you'd like to see featured!

The Great Below
This post is all Nancy/Goth Reform School's fault. Ever since she posted that goddamn NIN song yesterday they've been stuck in my head.
I may have had very questionable music taste growing up (in an attempt to rebel against my parents strict if-it-ain't-from-1977-it-sucks mentality) but Nine Inch Nails are one of the few bands I've consistently enjoyed since my early formative years.
A copy of And All That Could Have Been was given to me one day by a family friend and I'm pretty it was rendered unlistenable due to months of playing it in my Discman. I've always said a band is truly great if they sound better live and they do.

Generation Terrorists: A Style Restrospective of the Manic Street Preachers
In honour of Richey is dead you crazy fans Day, I've decided to do a post on how god awful the style of the Manic Street Preachers was/is.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to admit I loved them (and still do) to death when I was a mopey 14 year old, however one thing I could never get past is how badly they dressed. I understand it was the early 90s but no one should ever wear white jeans, leopard print and screen printed silk shirts.
Click below for some more cringeworthy photos.
I'm pretty sure when the Clash spray painted shirts they didn't put wussy things like "Dead Flower" on them.
All they need are diamond studs in their ears and they could be the 90s poster children for Ed Hardy.
Gay sailor jokes.
Just for shits and giggles have a 4 real photo of Richey. No Manics post is complete without one.
The 90s are coming back with a boom this year so watch out and please for the love of god don't take any style tips from these guys. If any of you happen to run into Nicky Wire on the street, kidnap him and direct him to the nearest Topman.
