Alexander McQueen AW 2011

Right now would be the part in the post where I would probably say something about how Sarah Burton is a great successor to Lee McQueen and she really knows how to infuse each collection with the true essence of the brand.

Instead I'm going to start off by saying I WANT A MCQUEEN HARNESS!!! This collection has a certain edge I haven't seen in a while (apparently there were wolves walking around the runway) that blends perfectly with the femininity that Sarah brings to each piece. The stunning black weave jacket with what looks to be a dog collar, classic tweed with zippers shaping the body and fur that looks a waterfall emerging out of the leather.

I don't really know what else to say, I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Alexander McQueen: 1 Year

We went down to the Alexander McQueen store in the Meatpacking District yesterday to pay respects to Lee on the first anniversary of his death. I was honestly shocked that no one else had laid out flowers, when this time last year everyone thought fashion was over.

May You Rest In Peace Mr. McQueen.

Guest Post: Alexander McQueen Men's AW 2011

One of my favourite bloggers, Marcus Estvanko of Fashion's Religion has been kind enough to do a little post on his favourite collection of Men's Fashion Week!

The McQueen brand has been around for quite sometime. Since 1992 to be exact. And what most people don't know is that Sarah Burton, the current creative director of the McQueen fashion house, has been the head of womenswear design since 2000.

It was clear Sarah had military uniforms on her mind for this season, with a limited color palette of blacks, whites and bold reds. The straightforwardness of the collection was genius, Naval officers with a few business man in between. Sarah even brilliantly kept the peaked shoulder the McQueen brand is famous for, with a slit in them to give them a more relaxed feel. This collection was neat, sleek, sharp, and reassuring.

Alexander McQueen SS 2011

After the tragic passing of Lee McQueen the fashion world was in turmoil trying to figure out who would fill his extremely large shoes. This is Sarah Burton's second collection after taking the reigns at Alexander McQueen, and I personally think she's doing the company and hopefully Lee proud.
The name McQueen has always made one think of bold intricate prints, powerful colours and strong silhouettes that truly stand the test of time.
As every model passed down the runway the colours of the collection reflect that of a sunset, with creams morphing into pale wheat into golden yellows into black. While some of the simpler looks were a little rough around the edges the harshness of the leather belts and vine dress juxtapose elegantly against the fur trimmed jackets and soft flowing dresses.
Has anyone talked about the wheat shoes yet? Because they're pretty amazing albeit channeling the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz a little too much.
All in all, I'm impressed. I'm eager to see what Sarah will do with the collections to come, if and how she'll morph the brand into something of her own.

Alexander Mcqueen SS2011

the collection is growing on me, it's a little rough around the edges and not as refined as the other mcqueen collections. i think it'll take time to get used to sarah burton but i'm glad she got chosen over anyone else. i adore the red jacket and printed trousers.

Alexander McQueen aw2010 (final collection)

i must say, i was worried about what i would think about mcqueen's last collection upon hearing of his death. while it is drastically different from his last, i am very impressed. the clothes make me think of an old renaissance painting in a lavish golden frame.
